Murano
Murano, Stadt in der Lagune nördlich von Venedig, auf fünf Inseln erbaut, mit (1961) 7.800 Einwohnern. Die venezianische Glasindustrie wurde in den letzten Jahrzehnten des 13. JH von Grado nach Murano verlegt und, nachdem 1292 alle Glasbläsereien Venedigs wegen Feuergefahr stillgelegt wurden, ausschließlich in Murano betrieben. Sie erreichte im 16. JH ihren Höhepunkt. In der Ausfuhr Venedigs nahm das Kunstglas von Murano den ersten Platz ein. Im 19. JH wurde die Produktion durch A. Salviati und P. Venini neu belebt. Murano hat ein Glasmuseum. *Brockhaus
